Wonder what all those letters on gravestones mean? Chances are they are related to a secret society, club or organization. Scroll through this extensive list or use the FIND feature on your computer to locate the acronym. If you know an acronym that's not on this list, please email us with the information and we'll add it. Finding out what the letters mean can be a big help to genealogists and those doing genealogical research.

We are asking viewers of this list to pay a one-time fee of $2.00 via PayPal to help us keep the list up and running. This is on the honor system. If you don't want to pay or can't afford to or don't use PayPal that's fine.

EMAIL an acronym

There are literally hundreds of secret societies, clubs, and organizations. Many no longer exist while others remain strong. The Cyclopaedia of Fraternities (also known as Cyclopędia of fraternities; a compilation of existing authentic information and the results of original investigation as to more than six hundred secret societies in the United States, compiled and edited by Albert C. Stevens, assisted by more than one hundred members of living secret societies), published in 1899 and 1907 has over six-hundred listings. When you see an emblem with an acronym that you aren't familiar with or simply find an acronym without an emblem, try matching up the acronym with the following list. Then enter the name you find into an Internet search engine. You may be pleasantly surprised with how many results you get.
