THE COLLAPSE OF STATION B. Disasters draw gawkers and photographers even more surely than construction sites. On May 13, 1910, in the process of moving the old S. 17th St. post office to a temporary location while a new substation was built, the frame building collapsed. "Nothing but a mass of wreckage was left behind." Two postal workers were in the building at the time. One jumped free unharmed, the other "had some of his fingers smashed and bruised, but was able to continue his duties afterward."<br />
