A rare exception in a house dominated by ceramic tile, the dining room’s focal point is its superb stencil-painted ceiling, whose muted hues intentionally suggest great age. The restrained clay tile floor is laid on the diagonal, echoing the design of the ceiling above. The Moorish motif found elsewhere in the house is repeated in the pointed arch of the fireplace, whose hearth, like that of the living room, consists of clay tiles set on edge. To either side, delicate wrought iron curtain rods support the home’s original draperies of Belgian linen. The mirror hanging above the sideboard at left allowed guests whose backs were to the window to nevertheless enjoy a view of the Malibu coastline.
