The few surviving vintage prints from John Johnson photographs suggest that he might have intended to crop an image like this one, excluding all but the couple and a portion of his backdrop. But the full-frame negative brings the scene to life, showing his backdrop tacked against the side of a clapboard house, with an old chair to the left and a small child observing the activity from the right edge.
