This exterior staircase at Broadway Village forms the centerpiece of a classic Andalusian ensemble. The stepped balustrade once again provides a welcoming spot for a few potted plants, as does the corner beside the bullnosed brick pylon. The grille near the upper landing is composed of stacked barrel tiles; the shed roof over the porch and the chimney with its grillwork of canted bricks are familiar Andalusian motifs. The once-monochrome clay tile paving has weathered to a variety of richly variegated ochers, just as the brickwork itself has mellowed. With notable retailing savvy, Joesler has cleverly installed a show window beneath the eye-catching flying arch.
