Picture postcards such as these helped bring the exotic world of the Panama-California Exposition home to those who couldn’t view its wonders in person. Subtle tinting of the original black-and-white photographs made the Fair’s dazzling buildings even more compelling. Clockwise from top left: The north side of the Prado, the fair’s main promenade; the California building; the colonnade and patio of the Counties Building; the State Buildings Plaza with the Montana Building at right and the Washington Building at left; a view of an interior plaza bearing the title “From a Cool Colonnade”; and the Pueblo-inspired “Spanish Patio” of the Food Building, sponsored by Ben Hur Coffee and Globe Flour.
