The Villa Primivera is the earliest known surviving example of the courts designed by Arthur and Nina Zwebell. The Spanish-style apartments built of wood and stucco completely surround the square courtyard. All ten apartments can be accessed by the courtyard. In Los Angeles, where the automobile is an essential part of life, it is a challenge to integrate sufficient parking spaces into courts, without overwhelming the architecture.where the living space isn’t much larger than a car. The Zwebells solved the problem by putting all of the parking in one space (off to the right in the photograph). Thus the parking spaces are hidden by a low wall and are out of sight Iif not out of mind.
