Chico, California
A serpentine fence neatly frames this Storybook cottage, built in 1926 in Chico, California. This home is part of Eastwood Park, an enchanted enclave of over three dozen Storybook Style homes, built by developer Orville Tracy between 1925 and 1929. Each home was custom made, but they all had the common elements of a uniform setback, a detached garage and access to an alley. Priced between $5000 and $9000, well above the homes in the surrounding neighborhood, Tracy hoped to attract doctors and professors who worked at the local hospital and Chico State University. In the early 1980’s the Chico Heritage Association’s survey of historic buildings included all of Tracy’s homes in Eastwood Park.
