Battered wing walls and a parabolic window are punctuated by a deeply-recessed attic vent in this cottage built for the treasurer of San Diego’s Marston’s department store. Spiral columns once again appear in the mullions of the triple window beyond the patio walls; the delicately-pierced circular vents are repeated above each column, as well as above each of the arched windows of the octagonal breakfast room. An arched wing wall topped by barrel tile adds a touch of formality to the driveway and balances the composition.
