Carefully-integrated landscape steps spill from the front entrance of this early-1930s Oakland cottage; note the witty mixture of variegated stone and brick in the retaining walls, which are original to the home. Festive awnings and a touch of wrought iron enliven the facade while, in a bit of masonic mischief, the base of the lovingly-crafted chimney is literally “bursting at the seams”.
