ELEGANT YOUNG WOMAN. Even without a studio, John Johnson endeavored to offer his subjects multiple portraits, altering poses, accessories, and solo versus group shots. Various photographs show this woman with and without her plumed hat and leather purse, sitting and standing, in profile and straight on (also see image LB002.) But all three views convey her strength and dignity.
